How do I insert an inline image with a web url into a email signature that doesn't appear as an attachment?

When creating a email signature using the Blank Message | Save As | File | HTML option when inserting an image I have tried adding a web url (dropbox link) which anyone can access for image location in order to avoid having attachments added to every message with the images in the signature. However no matter whether the "Attach this image to the message" is box is checked or not no image appears in the message.

Does dropbox actually work for random non browsers, or does it expect a browser to be pointed to their wen site? I can not make Gmails equivalent drive work that way. I can share the image however I like, it will not display in an embedded web page, let alone an email.
