How Do I Change/Disable Keyboard Shortcuts?

more options

I do not use the majority of keyboard controls in Firefox-- only Ctrl+F. Lately, I've noticed that using Ctrl+I in editor windows also pops up the Page Info window, which I have never used on purpose and am perfectly comfortable accessing via Firefox's menubar.

I have been searching for over an hour, and every Firefox add-on that I can find to fix this problem has been removed.

Ideally, I would like to be able to configure all of my keyboard shortcuts, but practically I will settle for being able to disable Ctrl-B, Ctrl-I, and Ctrl-U.

Hi Viktyr, yes, at least on Windows, Ctrl+i recently changed from opening something else (maybe the Bookmarks Sidebar?) to opening the Page Info dialog.

When you say you are in an editor window, is this something built-in to Firefox or a website editor (code, email, etc)? Websites can intercept and re-purpose Ctrl+i the way they do with Ctrl+b, Ctrl+u, etc., but some of them don't use the most modern code for that and instead rely on obsolete proprietary behaviors that Firefox discontinued a while ago. If there is a particular site where you notice the problem, we might be able to suggest the best workaround.

P. S. Currently there is a link filter on this site that doesn't allow text(dot)text so you may need to add a space after each dot in the address if you want to post a link for the relevant page.

It's specifically on EN World, at enworld dot org, using Xenoforo software.

The RPG Pub, at rpgpub dot com also uses Xenoforo software and doesn't display this problem.

Also, I'm using Firefox 77.0.1 for Linux Mint.

I also would like to edit the keyboard shortcuts. Specifically for me, it's the SHIFT+CTRL+W, which apparently closes ALL Tabs, closing Firefox. I constantly seem to be hitting the shift button when I'm trying just to close my current tab. Accidentally closing Firefox to my dismay.

Hi Jam3sK

You can look at some prefs to get at least a warning when you close tabs and close the browser.

browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab
browser.tabs.warnOnClose
browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs
browser.sessionstore.warnOnQuit (Options/Preferences -> General -> Startup)

Is there any way to let a site use its own shortcuts and disable built in keyboard shortcuts Firefox uses? I use Notion in Firefox for Linux and CTRL+SHIFT+P moves a page to another place. At the same time this opens a new private windows in Firefox. I can't figure out how to disable this Firefox shortcut.

I tried to edit the Page Info permissions of the site, but it doesn't work (0, 1, 2 or 3 tried): about:config > permissions.default.shortcuts > set to 0, 1, 2 or 3.

I also tried the Shortkeys add-on, which can disable some Firefox shortcuts, but this doesn't disable this specific shortcut.

Does anyone have any idea?

I have the same issue. I use a CMS to edit and usually use Cmd + B for bolding, but in Firefox which is the recommended browser to edit within the CMS it opens up the Bookmarks. I want to disable or change my shortcuts. This is a basic setting in most browsers and applications. Please allow users to change their shortcuts.

Thanks.

Do you get both -- the text is bolded and then the sidebar also opens -- or do you ONLY get the Firefox action?

Is this a recent change in your Firefox or have you had this experience for a long time? I ask that because of a change in the Firefox 65 time frame that older sites might not have adapted to. More info if relevant.

Unfortunately, support volunteers can't do this. You have many choices to submit feature suggestions, depending on your desired style of interaction:
