Do not put autocomplete text in address bar while typing but do have a dropdown list of suggestions

more options

Can you make the address bar not add autocomplete suggestions in the address bar where you're typing, but still put the suggestions dropdown list right below the address bar?

I know you can do a workaround every time you use the address bar but I use address bars dozens or hundreds of times a day and I would like the address bar to work like I want without having to do dozens or hundreds of workarounds a day.

more options

Hi Chuck, I'm with you on that. There is a hidden option:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.urlbar.autoFill and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch the value from true to false

Does that give you the result you're looking for?

(Toggling hidden options is officially unsupported, but since I use it myself, I feel okay telling you about it. More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox.)
