Firefox opens Orange Homepage but when I click to open the Webmail page it either doesn't open at all or takes a very long time. This problem only occurs on Orange WebMail when I try to check my Email This is not a problem when using Internet Explorer

A Solution! (as at 09/05/2011@2358):

Source of problem found and fix works! To me, the problem seems to revolve around loading the following file using https (for the UK version of orange webmail):

useg.orange.co.uk/ts/fsm/1x1.gif

Unfortunately this address does not easily load in all the browsers I have tried today including Firefox 4 (at least for Mac) and stops at least 2 orange webmail pages from loading in a reasonable amount of time e.g the reply box is delayed from showing when replying to a message (delayed for about 210 seconds). The http version of the above address loads with no problem so I expect that the https version (above) doesn't exist, has a problem, or it was supposed to be the http address version and was mistyped when coding.

Other webmail pages with this address on seem to comment it out to some extent.

So far only the pages requiring a box to type in an email haven't commented out this code, hence the long delay. Anyway here's the fix:

The solution is to block this address (an address for a 1x1 gif image).

The procedure to do this is:

Firefox > Preferences > Content

Tick Load images automatically box and then click the exceptions box to the right.

The address to enter is: useg.orange.co.uk

and then click the block button.

Now when firefox tries to reload the problem pages it blocks this image (and everything from the domain useg.orange.co.uk) and continues with the rest of the page.

Since Internet Explorer for windows works, I expect that it is not as "strict" as Firefox 4 when interpreting code.

Hope this helps.
