My new pc has bookmarks I am using but I also have an old Firefox profile from a previous failed pc. Can I access the old profile and pick and choose as well as retain my new bookmarks too?

Not easily. Whatever you do make backups of bookmarks and keep them somewhere safe. When you import the firefox bookmarks they overwrite the originals. So without resorting to squlite editors the options I can think of are

  1. export as html and then import in to firefox
If you use the old version of firefox, or use its profile or bookmarks in the new version, and choose to iexport as html the resulting folders can be reimported into the new version and thes will be appended to the new bookmarks set, allowing you to drag and drop and sort them.
  2. use two simultaneous instances of firefox - rather complicated
    • I have just tried this,
it is possible to open two versions, open the libraries and drag and drop between the libraries (use -no-remote )
    • It is probably possible to open two libraries from one firefox
I am able to open a library as a tab, (use chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul ) or window, instead of just as in its standard window from the User Interface. I imagine it is possible to store a second library and open that, but I do not know how, and will not have time to figure that out this week.

Someone else may help, otherwise I will think about it further next week, or maybe the HTML method suits you.
