I recently updated Shockwave Flash to the latest version v11.3.300.257 and Firefox to the latest version v13.0 and Flash doesn't seems to work anymore. When I check add-ons, Shockwave Flash is listed as 'enabled' and 'up-to-date'. There doesn't appear to be any blockage of the plugin either. Flash works fine on Internet Explorer(also same Flash version). I tried full uninstall and reinstall of the latest version of Flash, still Flash videos and anything Flash won't play, kept asking me to install flash on certain flash based websites. besides general reinstall and fresh reinstall, I've also tried installing both 32-bit and 64-bit flash player(listed for IE and Firefox('other browsers')). Firefox is restarted each time after an install, I couldn't seem to figure out what's wrong, please help...

I've found the solution! The Solution provided by Firefox on this issue as listed by 'cor-el' is only partially correct. On this solution as provided by Mozilla, you're required to disable Realplayer Browser Recorder from the Firefox add-on manager. That may not work for everyone(such as me) since this only disabled the plug-in on Firefox's side(it should be disabled by default anyway). You need to also disable Browser download support on Realplayer's side as well by:

  • Open up RealPlayer
  • Click on the 'RealPlayer' logo menus on the top left-hand corner of the window
  • Go to 'Preference', then select 'Download and Recording' and uncheck the box next to 'Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browsers'.
  • Click 'Ok' and exit Realplayer, restart Firefox if you had it opened.
  • You're set, the Flash errors on YouTube and Flash related issues should be resolved.

Goodjob, thanks for all the support guys!

I use the record function in Firefox all the time, so this is not a solution, although that was what the problem was.

I don't have realplayer or the realplayer plugin.

How I fixed it:

Make sure flash pugin is enabled.

You will need to use administrator account.

Close Firefox.

1. Open notepad 2. write the following lines:

AutoUpdateDisable=0 SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1 ProtectedMode=0

3. In notepad Files menu click Save as...

4. save the file on the desktop with file name: mms.cfg

5. close notepad

6. 32 BIT WINDOWS: go to c:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

    Copy mms.cfg to c:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
64 BIT WINDOWS: go to c:\windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    Copy mms.cfg to: c:\windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

Now try, say youtube.com, and flash videos might just work again!
