Why do I now have plugin.container.exe running?

I have used Firefox since v1. Current version is v14.0.1. I had plugin.container.exe running in Task Manager. I read what this is and do have some of the plugins. Memory use was about 28MB.

I went back to check and process is now gone, but Firefox is open. (I did not End Task) I was not actively using the plugins when I saw process running.

I read what it's for, but never saw the process before today. No recent update I know of.

Starting around Firefox 3.6.8, some plugins are executed in a separate process so that if they crash, they do not crash the main Firefox thread. Previously, this could be disabled globally -- you might have done that long ago and forgotten -- but some plugins are no longer allowed to run in the main Firefox thread for stability reasons.

If you're inclined to study it further, you might notice plugin-container.exe launch when you visit a site that use the Flash plugin.

Correction: It was Firefox 3.6.4.

Thank you for the reply. Okay, so it must be coming from Flash. Firefox updated when I still had v 3.5.xx and disabled, then blocked Flash. When I updated to v13, I saw others with that version weren't getting Flash.

Today was the first time I saw the plugin.container exe running. I just checked and it's running at 40MB of memory on this site.

Has the Flash "bug" been resolved? Should I disable the Flash plugin unless I need to use Flash

If you have Flash working fine on your computer, there is no need to disable it. You only need to disable or downgrade Flash if you are having a problem with it.

Something changed in Firefox- Flash was blocked, not by me. I got the error in FF about needing a plugin on all pages with Flash. I could install, but it wouldn't initialize.

Then the warning disappeared and the plugin.container.exe process shows. I don't know how or when the Flash plugin>>or container>> got on the system.

That was my concern.
