Hi,

You can try to download the latest, right-click on the installer and Run as administrator. If the problem persists, you can then consider the Reset Firefox feature via Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information.

(To revert to the previous profile you were using, close the new profile (i.e. exit Firefox), start Firefox and choose the Default User profile. While the Profile Manager is open, you can also delete the newly reset profile (the one containing random numbers), or the former profile, as the case may be). If the reset is okay, it would be a good idea to delete the old profile as otherwise it would be left intact with the previous data until deleted.

Thank you, and I apologize for taking so long, but reloading the new version did solve the problem. I am an older user of computers, and don't really like downloading updates because they sometimes change what I am used to doing and I don't know what to do. for example, I had Java, and was playing chess on the internet, using the Jinapplet. But the new version of Firefox wasn't compatible, and so Java couldn't run the jinapplet. I kept getting the message to "allow Java to run applet" but I didn't know how to do that. I finally got it to work (I could not tell you how) but the process makes me reluctant to want to load updates.

No problem :) Thanks very much for the update.

On another note: Usually it is always preferable to apply updates as the update helps to fix newly discovered vulnerabilities, and also adds various enhancements. A Firefox update goes through different stages of extensive use before being finally released. Most of the potential issues/incompatibilities are usually identified and rectified during the pre-release stages, though it is always possible that a hitherto unknown issue, or an issue unique to a particular setup/configuration crops up later. You can always count on our excellent army of users/contributors to help as much as possible, though occasionally complicated cases would be hard to dissect/solve. It would also be a good idea to setup/use Remote Assistance, and Remote Desktop with a trusted person (close friend, relative etc.) as a backup plan in such a case.
