I am getting a strange message when I open Thunderbird. At first I got it right away and could not receive any e-mails. Now I only get it hen I try to send.

The message starts, "You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site. Certificate status: This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information. Unknown identity. Certificate is not trusted.

There is a lot more but I can't copy the message. Then it goes to another message which I can copy, "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server smtp.gmail.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator."

I hope this gives you enough to help you help me.

I am surprised that you are getting that from Gmail, but have you accepted the exception?

Did you let Thunderbird make the initial account settings? Has anything changed?

My Outgoing server settings are: smtp.googlemail.com, port 465, my full email address (*******@gmail.com), Normal password, and SSL/TLS.

Did not accept the exception. Wasn't sure whether that was a smart thing to do.

You might try to accept the exception to see if that clears the problem.

As far as the settings are concerned, click on the name of your account (*******@gmail.com) and under Accounts click View settings for this account. Then at the bottom of the left pane, click Outgoing Server (SMTP). You will see the settings I referred to. If they are not right, highlight the google line and click edit.
