My wife had to format her laptop due to a crash and when she installed Mozilla Thunderbird the password does not work, or she is trying to input an incorrect password. Is there any way she can find out what her password was.

Thunderbird does not have a password. Your email account does though and it is administered with your email provider. Most providers have a link to reset passwords on their email help page.

That being said there are other things that cause the password error. I would go to your providers webmail page and make sure the username and password works there. If it does then there is no need to change passwords. It is more than likely an incorrect server setting or the antivirus software getting in the way.
