opens with 2 tabs plus 3 version FF running in task manager
My Firefox opens with 2 tabs showing, plus an oops message saying 1 tab is there by mistake. Plus when looking in the task manager, there are 3 sessions of Firefox running on the machine when there should only be 1 version running. How do I get to have only 1 tab open when starting up Firefox and only 1 version running in the task manager? TIA

Hi peakconstruct, "this is embarrassing" is a crash recovery page. If you do not believe Firefox is crashing at shutdown, there may be a problem with the normal handling of session history files (various files are moved/deleted at shutdown).
Do you use CCleaner? Try setting it not to clear your Firefox session data, or check whether an update is available. In Firefox 56, the file names and formats of the session history files changed, and this created an incompatibility with that CCleaner feature.

Hi, first of all, do not care about the system manager. Without being technical, FF decomposes activities in different processes to manage memories. So, a process is not a synonym of a Firefox instance (and in fact, you cannot have 2 Firefox running simultaneously). Now, does your tab behavior happens each time you open Firefox? One reason is Firefox opens last tabs opened from your last session.
Thanks for the reply smorele! 95% of the time I get a "This is embarrassing" message when the FF browser is opened on my Win 8 OS. It shows 2 tabs to be open for some reason. There are 2 buttons that appear, giving me the choice that I can leave open both tabs or close 1. I don't have FF setup to open the last web pages I looked at. For some reason with an auto update from FF, I also lost all of my bookmarks and had to go to the Windows search engine, pasting in the file name FF uses to store bookmark information to retrieve them. Thank you very much for answering my questions.

Does that mean you were able to restore a backup and you have your bookmarks back, or is this still a problem?
(Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer)
Thank You jscher2000 for the reply. I indeed do use CC cleaner and now know the reason why I get the embarrassing message when 1st opening up Fire Fox.I did indeed recover my bookmarks by using the Windows search feature and Thank You for asking about that, jscher2000. I sure do appreciate the great responses to my inquiries here in this Forum! Thanks again smorele and jscher2000 for answering my questions and I will keep using FireFox for my web browsing activities.
