68.1.2 - unread messages are only very slightly different from unread and I cannot tell the difference in dark theme
just got update 68.1.2 and still no fix to the problem of unread messages being only very slightly different from unread and I cannot tell the difference when using dark mode, and suggested hacks do not work for me. Are they going to fix this? Even in light mode the unread lines are just bold, even that is a only a slight difference, does this not bother anyone else?

On a Mac, or Windows? Does it happen after Help > Restart with add-ons disabled? Can you post a screen shot?
Windows 10, no add-ons installed Photos showing an unread message in both dark and light modes. It is not that bad in light mode, but I like the built in dark mode and there needs to be a different background perhaps to make them more visible. Had to add columns to show read and unread. I did try the safe mode start no change.

I'm inclined to agree. I think two factors may be involved:
1. unbold light characters in the dark theme are thicker than their dark characters in the default theme - so they may be brighter than they should, i.e. closer to their bold characters than the same bold and unbold characters in the default theme.
2. the background in dark theme is grayish, not black, so the light characters have less contrast then the default theme's pretty black characters against a very bright background

I just created a bug report, thanks.
Thunderbird 68.3.1 on OS/X Catalina.
Upgraded yesterday. Before the upgrade unread messages were in blue and very easy to identify quickly.
Allegedly this has been improved so that both read and unread messages are now in white and despite unread being in bold it is (for me at least) nigh on impossible to tell which messages are unread at a glance.
According to my optician I have good eyesight and no colour perception problems so I think the problem lies with the 'improvements'.
Please please please return to using colour to differentiate read/unread messages. Oh, and please do it quickly because it has made a excellent email browser terrible!
They fixed this for me on a bugzilla post. In fact I like this better now because I can pick what color I want the unread to be. go to this link and look at the bottom.
Thanks for the emailing this info. I can now see which emails are unread!
I went crazy trying colors, am using this right now.
A different css but one that achieves the same thing is here:
Thanks.
