The instructions at How to set the home page will tell you how to set Firefox to start in the pages were last at.

Thanks for the attempt but that's not what I mean. I want my home page to be the same every time other than when I quite and tell it to save where I left off. I used to be able to do this. I don't want it to save the last page all the time - which is what that option does - I believe.

Try this: In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter . The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! , to continue to the about:config page. Search for the preference browser.tabs.warnOnClose, and doiuble-click on it, which should set the value to false.

Tools > Options > Tabs  , "Warn me when closing multiple tabs".  If it is un-checked, click in the small box next to it to place a check mark.

You can reset the warn prefs on the about:config page. Set the following to true: browser.tabs.warnOnClose (see: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries ) browser.warnOnQuit (see: http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit ) browser.warnOnRestart (see: http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart )

To open the about:config page, -type about:config in the location/URL bar and press the Enter key -if you see a warning accept it (promise to be careful) -Filter = (pref name from above)

Restart Firefox and test.

Thanks, but I don't understand why I would have to do all this. It seems like a very technical thing to do to have FF work as it should.

The suggestions posted have worked for others. Possibly something that you installed has changed some of your settings. You need to check those settings mentioned.

If you check your settings and they are as outlined above, post back to this thread with your results, and, in a respectful manner, ask for additional assistance, someone here will try to help you further.

Checking your settings, or NOT, or making recommended changes that have worked for other users, or NOT, is your choice.

I looked at my config page and the values you said to set to True were already set to True.

I'm also curious why Chris_Ilias said to set the one to False and TXguy said to set it to True.

To confirm your other settings as in my orginal post, since you did not mention them. Did you check: Tools > Options > Tabs (OSX: Firefox > Preferences > Tabs), "Warn me when closing multiple tabs". Read the description in the list below for that option and determine for yourself if it should be set to true or false. On the following link, scroll down to or use the Find function to locate browser. tabs. warnOnClose. Note that the setting is changed by Tools > Options > Tabs , "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" mentioned above; just want to be sure the setting is "sticking". Be sure that you do not check the "Do not ask again" box if you see the "Firefox Quit" warning box as that will reset your preferences. Only choose "Save and Quit", "Quit" or "Cancel". "Quit" will quit without saving the tabs, "Cancel" will cancel the quit sequence and return you to your current Firefox window without closing existing tabs.

I very rarely use that warning box though I have my system set as outlined above and get the warning box every time when choosing to exit Firefox from the menu commands, not the "X". Using the menu commands to close an application insures an orderly shut down and saving of data. I save important sessions with the add-on Session Manager: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2324/

These are the only suggestions that I have for you. Perhaps someone else can suggest other items for you to try.

If you use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox in Firefox 3.5 and later or Clear Private Data in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

Cor-el that was the issue. I had the "clear history when closed" checked off although I had the "save history for at least 1 day" as well. So it seems that with this edition of FF I cannot clear the history if I want to save the session. That's so dumb. The browser should allow you to have the "clear history when closed" option checked and then if you subsequently choose to save the session it automatically overrides it to save the session. Is this a change from the previous versions of FF - it seems to be ?

TXGuy - thanks. Those settings were set properly.

Strange. I do not keep history to begin with and I clear everything when closing, and Save and Quit works on my system with Firefox 3.6.3
