Every time I update Firefox to the latest version, I get this huge ugly bookmarks toolbar with four rows. I only want ONE row.

How do I change it back to one row and keep it that way?

Do you have bookmarks with a long title on that toolbar?

Do or did you have text and icons on the Bookmarks Toolbar or did something change there to take up more space?

Do you have any extensions that add extra toolbar because Firefox shows an overflow chevron by default if items do not fit on one bar?

No to the first 2 questions. Your 3rd question I don't understand -- what is an extensions? However the change happened, not because of anything I did, but because Firefox automatically updated to a new version.

This happened once before after updating, and by trying lots of things I was able to get it go back to a single row of bookmarks. However now I cannot remember how I did that and am stuck with this enormous bookmark toolbar that takes up way too much space!

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
