Do I have to changer browsers to watch Facebook videos if I want to use the Flash-Block extension with recent updates of Firefox and Flash-Player?

I had to disable Flash-block to view videos in Facebook following recent updates of Firefox to 17.0.1 and Flash Player 11.5 on Mac Snow-Leopard OS X.6.8.

With the Flash Block extension enabled, I can view videos on all other sites, like news and u-tube and other blogs, and on Facebook with other browsers such as Safari.

I prefer Firefox, but I prefer it best with Flash Block enabled, because I have slow internet and most sites load more slowly without Flash Block. And Flash Block is a great add-on that eliminates a lot of annoying characteristics of Flash Player.

Is there anyway to use my updated Firefox for watching Facebook videos (and everything else I do) and to have Flash Block enabled? Are there Flash Block or Firefox updates to make this workable?

I really don't want to switch to another browser. I love Firefox.

Prior to the recent Flash Player updates from V 10 to V 11, and Firefox update to 17.0.1, I could watch videos on Facebook with no problem with Flash Block enabled.

Is that video coming from someplace else? For instance, I cannot watch YouTube videos if they are embedded in pages from DSLReports, but I can watch them on YouTube. There is an item on the context menu that allows viewing from the originating site, in that case. Is that the case with the Facebook videos?

Firefox 14.0-plus versions have a "click to play" feature for plugins. It is not enabled by default (yet) because it is a "work-in-progress", but it works fine for me in WinXP.

See if this helps you solve that issue.

It is my own video or any other videos on Facebook, all of which worked just fine with Flash-Block enabled before recent updates of Firefox to 17.0.1 and Flash Player to 11.5. And it's only on Facebook. And things work fine in other browsers and on other sites with Flash-Block enabled.

Now I have had to disable Flash Block to watch any and all videos, including my own on Facebook while using Firefox.

I think it's a bug that Firefox needs to look at. Or I need a work around for this so I can keep Flash Block enabled and still use Firefox. I am on Mac OS X.6.8. And must stay on this system to use my slide scanner and current version of Photoshop.

I would prefer not to switch browsers just to enable Flash Block and watch videos on Facebook, which I always used to be able to do with no problem, with Flash Block enabled, prior to recent updates of Firefox and Flash Player.

akmk,

Can you not just whitelist that site for Flashblock?

edmeister,

Can you use QTVR with click to play enabled? The last time I tried that, it did not work at all.

I do not understand what you are talking about??

What is a whitelist and how does one enable it???

The fact remains that this was not a problem prior to recent updates to FF 17.0.1, so it is a bug with the updates and really ought to be fixed.

Firefox is a great browser and white-listing other browsers is not necessary.

It is in the best interest of Firefox to try to fix bugs when they are brought to their attention.

If you look at the preferences for Flashblock (access from the extensions window of the add-ons manager) and choose Whitelist, you can add a site to that window, and that site will not be blocked by Flashblock at all. You will not even see the Flashblock icon.

Actually, I tried the whitelist and it does not work. The only thing that works is totally disabling Flashblock.

So the bugs remain.

My choices remain: Change browsers or give up Flashbook to watch videos on Facebook with OS X.6.8 FF 17.0.1 and Flash Player 11.5 unless debuggers get to work.

I think I may have figured out how to make the whitelist work. It's not enough to type in "Facebook", one must type in www.facebook.com

Probably good to tell that to first time users of this feature.  :)
