What I'm experiencing is that FireFox crashes upon most start-ups. it also crashes randomly. Be it known, it has been doing this in safemode, too. It has been doing this before any plugins were installed, and it has been doing it since FireFox 12 or FireFox 13.

Oddly enough, my folder for where the crash reports SHOULD go is completely empty.

Current version: 22.0

What should I do from here?

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Thank you.

In response to Finitarry: I've been through almost everything that I can think of. I've tried those, those didn't help.

waka_flocka_flame: This has yet to be tried. I'll give this a go and see what happens.

Oddly enough, on this very same computer but on my windows 7 hard drive, I never have an issue. Only in XP do I have lots of crashes. In fact, with the attempt to "reset" firefox as specified in one of the guides, it made FireFox useless. It required a complete uninstall and fresh install in order for FireFox to load. Immediately after the install, upon being asked what I want as my default browser, firefox crashed. (all this is prior to trying what waka_flocka_flame suggested)
