Firefox says click here to update Shockwave, but that says Shockwave is disabled so you can't click that link. Please provide fix.

On the Add-ons Manager page/Plugins entry for Shockwave Flash appears the line "Shockwave Flash is known to be vulnerable and should be updated." This is followed by a link reading "Update Now". When I click this link, Firefox thinks for a while and then brings up a page that says (it's quite long, so this is a summary) Shockwave Flash versions have been disabled, so this page appears when you click on any of its links.

Since "Update Now" doesn't work, please send me an executable file that will fix this. Firefox says it is version 30.0.

Hi SF11blocked, I understand that you have tried to add Shockwave Flash to Firefox, and are prompted to update, but when you came to the support site and submitted your question alot of text boxes came up and many were submitted. I also understand when you logged into the Adobe Site there were two problems:

The first problem was that there had never been an activation drop-down list for that entry. (Perhaps it had been removed when that plug-in was disabled?) The second problem was that I had deleted the Shockwave entry.

If you deleted the entry from: [about:addons] http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/k.../enabling-flash-player-firefox.html then you uninstalled it. Was it removed when it was disabled? It should not have been.

I would recommend downloading and installing it one more time from the original downloaded file in your download folder. If it is no longer there I would recommend starting over.

Please post back with your results.

I didn't uninstall shockwave. The note says it is known to have a problem and has been disabled by Firefox. I click the update button and get a long page of stuff from Adobe. There is no place to update the program. So how do I update it so it quits crashing? thx

4pat, this was a old thread.

Anyways here is the download link for current versions of Flash player https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

I believe you are referring to the Shockwave Flash player and not the different Shockwave (for director) player.

Reasons for the update https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-27.html https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/

edit: changed blocklist link as it was splitted in two parts today.

Hi, 4pat. I ran into EXACT THE SAME problem and went through almost the same fixes. I opted for update and it didn't work out. Just like you did. I was quite frustrated when I saw all those replies to this post and still got no solution. I noticed that the greyed-out Shockwave Flash was "ask to activate", then I turned it into "Never activate" coz there was no disable or remove option. Guess what? I refresh the page and I can see the video on Youtube!!! I don't know how it works, but at least it fixes the problem now.

There is no remove for Plugins since Plugins are not actually installed in Firefox (like Extensions and Themes(complete)) are but on system and Firefox makes use of the compatible Plugins. The Activate/deactivate tells Firefox to use that plugin or not.
