I am currently running Firefox 36.0.4 on a Windows 7 Pro computer. I've tried twice to upgrade to Firefox 37.0.1 with NO success. After the software is downloaded and the upgrade begins, the upgrade appears to just "hang" -- nothing happens after 15 minutes which is much too long to do the upgrade as previous Firefox upgrades have NEVER have taken this long and I've never had any problems with prior Firefox upgrades!. My Windows 7 has the the most current Microsoft patches. I don't know why this happens. Any suggestions? For the moment I'm giving up trying to upgrade to version 37.0.1.

Simply go to www.getfirefox.com, download the new version and install it. All your data will be saved but you will be running the newest version.

Thanks for the information. This worked "like a charm". Not sure why the Firefox upgrade button (in the 'Help -> About' Firefox menu) didn't work but I'm happy to have the 37.0.1 version installed and running.

I tried upgrading to 37.0* and it was a total disaster. Lost everything, bookmarks NPP functionality, etc. After a day's fiddling, I found that the upgrade had installed TWO files named firefox.exe, in different folders. One was a so-called "Developer Edition". The presence of two executables with the same name totally confused my Win7 box. Once I figured this out, I uninstalled the "Developer Edition", but now I'm left with a Firefox v30 and Mozilla keeps bugging me to upgrade. Once bitten, twice shy. I'm now looking for a way to upgrade without being clobbered again by the "Developer Edition".

You must have downloaded the Developer edition of firefox, which creates a new profile when installed. It's not meant for regular usage.

You can download Firefox 37 (which is not developer edition) from www.getfirefox.com and install it over your regular Firefox 30. It will update while keeping everything in place.
