Does thunderbird protect my emails with Google? I log into Mozilla, then to gmail. I have been getting emails from "me", someone using my email account and the message shows "a personal message for you". I have no idea who is sending me these emails but I do not click on them, just delete them, but want to know how to stop them. Thank you.

Hello

Thank you for getting in touch with Mozilla Support.

To answer your first question : Thunderbird is a free, open-source, cross-platform application for managing email and news feeds. It is a local (rather than a web-based) email application that is powerful yet easy-to-use. We are glad you are using it this far.

About the issue on your emails being sent out, this is an issue you have to pick up with your service provider. Personal technical advice would be to change your password (gmail, yahoo etc - account being affected) > Reset your account on thunderbird and monitor your inbox for sometime.

Do let me know if you need any help.

Cheers, Michael

Thank you for responding so quickly! I guess my first question is: Do I have Thunderbird? If so, how do I reset my account? I am not very tech savvy so please bear with me. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Not to worry.

I gonna grab this chance to introduce to thunderbird :-)

  1. Visit the Thunderbird download page in any browser (e.g. Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer). The page will automatically recommend the best version(s) of Thunderbird for you.
  2. Click on the green download link to download the Thunderbird installer. Depending on your connection speed, the download may take up to a few minutes. Thanks for your patience… it’ll be worth the wait!
  3. Start the process by clicking Run.
  4. Then, just follow the steps (we’ve made the process as painless as possible). Congratulations, you are done installing Thunderbird!
  5. Double-click on the Thunderbird icon whenever you want to communicate.

Let me know once you have this done.

Thank you

OK, I have it installed. Can I still use my Google email?

Nice.. Yes you can. We're going to dive a bit into some fun stuff :-)

Configuring your Gmail account

To configure Thunderbird to work with Gmail, first enable IMAP on your Gmail account. See Gmail's instructions for help. (IMAP is enabled on new Gmail accounts by default.)

Double check that "Access for less secure apps" is enabled. See Google's article on "less secure apps " for help.

Next, select File | New | Existing Mail Account.... The "Mail Account Setup" dialog is displayed. After you provide your account information (real name, email address and password), Thunderbird will automatically configure your Gmail connection. Click Done and that's all! Thunderbird will download your existing messages and your Gmail will be ready to use.

Standing by.

Well I think I did everything. When I was done, I received a message from Google saying there was a sign in from Windows. But I went out of my regular email and signed into Mozilla again but when I clicked on the Thunderbird icon nothing happened. What did I do wrong?

Where did you get this message from? thunderbird or from gmail?

does the thunderbird application launch up to show the inbox?

Hi again

This is alright as it's a security notification.

Kindly restart your machine and re-try launching thunderbird.
