Hi,

I cannot receive Emails in my Inbox because Inbox Folder is Full. What do I have to do? I read somewhere that I have to Compact/Compress The Inbox Folder. Is this right?

Soluție aleasă

Yes you need to do that. Esp. your inboxes. When you delete or move a file it is NOT deleted it is just marked as deleted until you compact, thats rewrite, your folder

Second thing you need to do is move mails out of inbox. Keep it as tiny as you can. Inbox will receive every mail and attachment and then you move or delete them. Its a lot of trafic on that file, you will access it every time you open Tbird If its 1-4 GB big it takes time to write and read and Tbird would feel slow. Another folder, whether its on server or locally, wouldn't be accessed as often and wouldn't have that many changes.

Hi Gnospen,

You mean I have to keep de inbox as empty as possible, right?

There are two things I do not quite understand:

1)"Its a lot of trafic on that file, you will access it every time you open Tbird".

2)"Another folder, whether its on server or locally, wouldn't be accessed as often and wouldn't have that many changes". What do you mean with Folder Locally?

My wording might be a bit of, what I meant was:

Every time you open Tbird it will try to download new mail into INBOX this will repeat every x minutes (set in account-settings). In a POP3 account it will try to download new mails into the end of INBOX-file. In IMAP accounts it will try to download mail-headers into INBOX and mail-body and attachment into Cache. It will try to sync your PC's mail-contents with the servers.

If you selected Keep messages for this account on this computer (IMAP) the whole email with attachment will be added at the end of that single INBOX-file.

Syncing another folder (file), wouldn't be as hard as they rarely change.

You have Local Folders on your account-pane. Every folder and subfolder created under this is only on your pc and will NOT be synced with a server. Every mail moved to one of those folders will be deleted from server.

In a POP3 account you can't create any folders on the server so if you despite that do have a folder under username@pop.xxx.yyy it is only a local folder on your PC. (except Junk and Trash)

Folders, local or as a mirror of the servers, have a "MBOX"-structure in Tbird. They all need compacting.

Hi Gnospen,

Thanks for your reply. I think I understand now.

So compacting The Inbox Folder and moving or deleting emails from Inbox Folder are the most important things I have to do.

Thanks and Regards,
