I normally have my new tabs set to the Google homepage. But today, it was just a blank page when I click a new tab. So I googled what to do and went to about:config. The instructions were to change the browser.newtab.url. However it is NOT there!!! I have searched for "browser.newtab" and it's not in the list. It simply isn't there. Help.

That pref was removed in Firefox 41 and subsequent versions. I'm not currently doing Beta testing so I haven't had to deal with that yet.

It looks like this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/ - will allow you to set your own choice for the New Tab URL.
