Tb working fine in OSX 10.6.8. Moved profile files to different user on a different iMac with OSX 10.11.6. TB requires new path for Message Storage a Server Setting. Won't allow edit of path. Browse gets me to user files but not to the hidden Library file which I would use to get the new path. How can I get the new path in setting?

Thankx for your help. I did find the way to make the Library file appear. Now using the Browse button and getting what looks like the correct path I get this error message: The Local Directory path "/Users/bobo/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/vdm0ndad.default/Mail/pop.ameritech.yahoo.com" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory.

There are three folders in the Mail folder. each one gives me the same error message. Can you suggest a correct choice?

the path that I am trying to change is: /Users/ibob/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/iey2agpo.default/Mail/pop.ameritech.yahoo.com

I am trying to set up TB for the user bobo

in this circumstance I suggest you use the config editor to locate and change any mention of ibob

Thankx again for your help. Changing ibob to bobo in four items in Config Editor worked. TB is now working. Remaining problem is getting my mailbox folders to appear in the side bar (left of TB window). These folders are in the Profiles. Mailbox folders also are not included with Inbox, Junk, and Trash when using menu path Go>Folder>Bob's account. TB 38.5.1 Mac OSX 10.11.6

As long as they are POP offline folders or local folders you should do fine. IMAP offline folders tend to be eaten in the sync process to the server. A more ticklish subject to try and work around.

With Thunderbird shut down. Delete the files fordertree.dat and xustore.json. See if that jars things to life

After extensive searching I am unable to find either of these files. Any clues as to where they might be?

I did find a file xulstore.json. path is Users/bobo/Thunderbird/Profiles/vdmOndad.default/Mail/xulstore.json I deleted (moved to trash) xulstore.json. Then started TB but mailboxes did not appear in side bar. a new xulstore.json file was generated by TB.

Houston there is a problem.

If you profile was correctly defined. The file would have been located in.

Users/bobo/Thunderbird/Profiles/vdmOndad.default/xulstore.json

Are you sure you entered that path to the message correctly?

Including Mail in the path to xulstore.json was an error in my last post. Mail is not in the path. The path does include Library which I should have included.

each of my mailboxes (which TB does not access) have two files (example: Bike Stuff and Bike Stuff.msf some also have .snm files ). the path to the mailboxes is: Users/bobo/LIbrary/Thunderbird/Profiles/vdmOndad.default/Mail/[mailbox files].
