I changed my Gmail password and Thunderbird asks me to enter the new one, however, it displays my email address with a lit 'Next' button but the button doesn't take me to the next screen to allow me to enter the password, it just flashes, no matter how many time I click it.

Go to Options-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords Click Show Passwords Right click the password you wish to change and select Edit.

Many thanks for your speedy response Airmail. I tried to do that yesterday but there is no Edit option, only Remove, Remove all or Show Passwords. Perhaps unwisely, I removed the problem ones hoping that it would then let me re-enter them. It made no difference.

Incidentally, on TB it is found in Preferences > Security> Saved passwords.

Thanks again for your help but still not resolved. Michael

. If you are using MAC and not Windows. That is why it is important to give a few facts when asking a question

The Edit option under right click is most definitely included on Ver. 45.8 but once again we are left guessing what version you are using. .

I have just downloaded 52.01 but same problem persists. Using right click on mine presents Copy user name, Edit user name, Copy password but Edit password is greyed out.

Apologies for lack of relevant info previously. Any help however is greatly appreciated. Michael

I have no idea why edit is not available to you. I would just delete the existing password. In light of no saved password Thunderbird should prompt you for one next time it is needed.

That is what I did and it does prompt me for a new password but that was the problem I first posted - It displays the user name but the Next prompt, which should take me to the password entry screen, does nothing. It is lit but when clicked it flashes but does not open the password entry.

I am not sure what you are seeing but the password request I receive has no NEXT on it. It just has a place to enter the password and a box to check to remember it. See image.

That is what happens when other apps request the Gmail password but on Thunderbird it displays a window with my Gmail address and a 'Next' button to, presumably take me to the password entry window. But the 'Next' button doesn't work. This is on a Mac running OSX 10.11.6

There seems to be a problem with TB in OSX and some dialogues being clipped or non-functional. See this post for a possible workaround involving system display settings.

You do realize the screenshot you posted shows a dialog box from Google and not Thunderbird? What happens if you go the the gmail site and log into your account?

Thanks sfhowes. I did a fresh install from the Mozilla site, just in case. Makes no difference.

Yes Airmail, I realise that the Google logo is on the window. I guess it is probably a Google problem but it stops me using TB. Logging in on Gmail works perfectly.

I think this one maybe a stretch too far for all of us and, sadly, time to change my email client.

Phew! I was beginning to think it was just me!

I'm experiencing the same thing on Windows. And just like the original poster I thought deleting the account and re-adding would fix the problem, but now I'm just stuck and unable to add it back.

True, but in Windows 10, if you hover over Thunderbird down on your Taskbar, a thumbnail of that Google-looking dialog pops up side-by-side with the other active Thunderbird windows. So, Google didn't spawn that window; Thunderbird did it talking to servers at Google, and there's something there in that transaction that's broken. Perhaps an incorrect set of parameters -- IANA rockstar Google API programmer, so I've only a foggy guess at what may be the problem. Notably, the ONLY thing in that window that works at all is the link to change the displayed language.

I popped up the Thunderbird Developer Tools and dumped this feed from the Console trying to click "NEXT" repeatedly, and it seems there's some sort of JavaScript error whenever you click on that button:

I hadn't done that, yet, because the faulting window is in Google's domain; specifically https://accounts.google.com/signin/oauth...

So it isn't clear where the fault lies; whether Google has a patch of bad code, or Thunderbird isn't providing the correct parameters to make Google's code work.

I just got a message from Google that someone tried to access my account. They suggested I change my password, I did and now I cannot access my emails using the program I usually use to access my g mail accounts, Mozilla's "Thunderbird". I can get my mail but I have to log into Google's program to get them. I have 4 and they all forward to the one below. When I open TB I can only see the e mails that arrived before I changed the password. No new ones, I tried to send a test from my wife's g mail account, I see it in Google's e mail program in box but It doesn’t go to my in box in TB. I also cant send any messages from TB.

"Sending of password for user rgh43is@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754"

Then this box pos up: ____________________________________________________________________ Google

Sign In to continue to Mozilla Thunderbird e mail

E mail or phone rgh43is@gmail.com

More options NEXT ____________________________________________________________

Clicking on anything does nothing, it goes no where.

I have used Thunderbird for years and my wife's account still works with TB just fine, but I didn't change her password.

My settings;

TB is up to date, 52.0.1 32bit

Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings Google Mail - smtp.gmail.com (Default)

Details of selected server:

                       Descripition: Google Mail
                      Server name: smtp:gmail.com
    Authenticaation method: OAuth2
          Connection Security: SSL/TLS

4/27/17 Now Wed night I opened TB & it asked for my password so I put in the new one I created after the waning from Google on 4/25/17 & a miracle happened, my in box started to fill up so I thought Great it's fixed but later I tried to send a message & couldn't the "Box" I mentioned above popped up with no way to do as asked, as clicking on NEXT didn't go any where. That Box shows several Google apps then they disappear leaving only the Main Google logo. After all this I can do everything except send an email. I don’t know who owns the issue but the bottom line is it ain't working.

Forgot to mention that using Google's mail program everything works OK both in & out. I just like the format etc of TB better, I have used both FF & TB for many years.
