After the newest update my bookmarks bar is completely broken. I can't add any new bookmarks or see any bookmarks in the bar although under bookmarks>bookmarks toolbar is populated. I have tried deleting all of my bookmarks and reimporting from .bak and .html files. I also deleted places.sqlite and let Firefox make a new one and still no luck. Any ideas?

Perhaps it will work again if you download Firefox ESR (52)? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

And turn off automatic updates if you don't want to get the broken version of Firefox again. Turning off automatic updates can be done in Tools->Options->Advanced->Update Or go to about:config and search for app.update.auto and turn it off.

I just tried switching it to ver 52 and it didn't fix my issue. Before the update I had version 54.
