When you click a history link to open the link then a new history item gets created at the top of the history list. Firefox only shows the most recent visit and thus you jump to the top of the list. A possible workaround to prevent creating a new history item is to open a New Private Window and check the history via the sidebar in this window.

I've never grappled with XUL so I plead ignorance with regards to the way that it maps to native controls, or custom paints its own; but having dealt with listboxes, and scrollboxes and all kinds of other similar widgets in Win32 desktop development in the past, it would seem that this behaviour is by design, and it's quite irritating.

It would be much more friendly to the end user for the new field to be added to the top of the control, but not to scroll it into view.
