After updating my Firefox to 60.0.2 (64 bits) on a Windows 8.1 (Pro), the Disk access goes to 100%, slowing the computer.
I checked the Task Manager, and the Disk goes to 100% all the time, slowing down the computer. I tried ending the main Firefox app, and a new background process starts and takes a lot of time to finish (the six background processes corresponding to my 6 windows remained until all finish). I pressume that this last process is a rollback for whatever the other processes were doing... How can I go back to use Firefox normally?

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 29.0.0 https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to current version 30.0.0.113
firefox is multi-processor support browser so it uses all cores of your cpu chip. That are what you see running as well as add-ons/Extensions, Sandbox
So will need to give this a try for you please : go to Options --> General --> Performance and uncheck the box for Use Recommended Settings and try changing the Process count to 2 and can also go up but note more cpu and ram will be used. You will need to reboot after making any changes.
Then go to Options --> Privacy & Security and down to Permissions. Please ensure that the box for Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser is checked.

I made all the changes you suggest, but the problem persists, perhaps even worse, because now I cannot use Firefox at all (now the old session does not finish to be restored... See the screen capture attached).
Hi, the memory usage seems fine and better than fine.
Do know eset can cause issues in displaying web pages.
I will suggest that you move to the Extended Release Version 60.0.2esr due to Win8.1 is older and is probably on a older Motherboard that has not had driver updates to it and Video Card will not update and you have about 8gigs of ram. Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.
Please uninstall Firefox (would have asked you to this with regular release but esr possibly better for you). Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 60.0.2 with a Full Version Installer
OR Move to the Extended Release Version here :
