I change the default helper application for "Portable Document Format (PDF)" files in Firefox to open using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. At some later point in time, it gets changed back to "Save File". This is very annoying. Any idea what the problem is and how to stop it from happening?

So when is it doing this? Clicking on a pdf link or file on a site? The info you provided is vague as to when and where this is happening. What is "At some later point in time" actually mean? There has to be a history to backtrack the issue.

The answer is, I wish I knew. All I know is that on one day, I can set it to open PDF's that I select on a website using Adobe Acrobat reader. This setting may work for several days, but then I select a PDF on a website and it saves the file to "Downloads" rather than opening it up using Adobe. I go back to Tools and look at the helper apps and it is set for "Save File" again.
