I recently replaced my hard drive and subsequently lost my Thunderbird email contact list and emails. I don't remember my password from years ago. I need to recover contact list and emails. Any ideas?

If you still have the old hard drive you might be able to use it like an external hardrive and get access.

In which case you could find you old profile. It is typically in this location:

  • C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\

If you have this let me know and I'll provide more info as emails, contacts and password would probably be easily recovered.

re: password Passwords are created and updated in the webmail account accessed via a browser. If you do not know the pasword, then there should be 'Forgotten password' link to use. Follow the instructions to get access. If it is not a webmail account set by your ISP, then you may get an email sent to another email address or text sent to phone depending upon what you set up in the account.

Once you get access, reset the password and then double check you can get access to the webmail account using the new password. Once this is done, you can use that new password to allow Thunderbird to access the server.
