Is it possible to delete an email in Thunderbird and have that email deleted in our Gmail account? I want to use Thunderbird, but my law partner wants to stay in Gmail. Our firm email is a Gmail account, and I cannot avoid the interaction between users (meaning, my partner and me).

Lamentably for me, if I cannot manipulate the Gmail account through Thunderbird, I'm stuck with the Gmail account.

Any help will be appreciated.

Peter

That is always how it works. You do have options regarding how long an email is stored in Trash after you delete it, in case you hit delete by mistake, but everything that goes to Trash in Thunderbird goes to Trash(Bin) in Gmail. The way that happens is slightly different depending whether you set up Thunderbird as IMAP or POP. In the case of POP3, all email is moved from Gmail to Thunderbird, and in the case of IMAP, Thunderbird is simply showing you what is in Gmail and can manipulate where your emails are in Gmail. Look at the See Also articles beside this question - "Thunderbird and Gmail" will tell you more. Agnes
