Hi,

All of a sudden I started getting a strange download indication which didn't show up when I looked for it. Since then, when I press "+ New Tabs," a new tab doesn't open. A new tab opens only when I've clicked on a new link for a topic.

I cleared the cache, restarted my phone twice and un-and re-installed Firefox twice. I was originally synced with Firefox on my other phones, but I don't want to sign in again with that email until this problem is fixed. I haven't opened Firefox again on my previous phones since this all started. I'm going to cry if those versions are "infected" with this problem as well. I just can't erase all the data I've previously accumulated within Firefox on those devices, either.

Now I've looked in Firefox Support for this problem and I've looked again and again for a way to restart in Safe Mode, but I can't find it. Could someone please help me diagnose and fix this issue?

Hi

Have you tried clearing your browsing history?

Can you supply more information about this "strange download indication"?

I had my account synced with the browser on my previous phone and really didn't want to nuke the browser history on the new phone and also have it disappear on the old phone, if that is what would happen. Is that what will happen? Also, do you really think that would take care of this problem?

The download thing... I kept seeing a banner that indicated there had been a download, but the file "name" was an alphanumeric string that didn't make sense. I kept swiping the banner off and eventually it went away. I looked under Downloads in Mozilla...nothing there. Looked under Downloads on phone (or Google?) and saw 2 recent downloads that are definitely things I downloaded, but I can't say for sure either one has that "string" name.

What websites are you browsing when this download starts?

Hi. The download is gone, doesn't appear to be an issue and unless there was a virus attached (and I don't go to weird sites) I don't think it's the problem. At least I hope not. What I thought was a random event has NOT happened again.

But I still have the missing new tab option in 3-dot side menu and no new tab appearing when I press the + new tab option on the screen.

Hi

Is this happening in the latest version of Firefox for Android available from the Google Play store?

Yes, it is. Un- and re installed twice. First time I used it, I had it synced with last phone and it was fine. Then that odd download msg (I found one and erased it. I can't remember anything else about it.). Then it started all this.

What other apps have you recently installed onto your Android device?

As far as I can remember, I just moved all apps from the old phone to the current phone. No new apps.
