I've downloaded FF v4 & now cannot organize or delete bookmarks as there is no Organize Bookmarks option in my Bookmarks Dropdown.

"Help" file (v4) says to do the following to organize bookmarks:

At the top of the Firefox window, click Bookmarks, then select Organize Bookmarks.... The Library window will appear.

But there is no entry for "Organize Bookmarks" option in my Bookmarks Dropdown menu, just "Bookmark This Page" & "Show All Bookmarks" . Also if I open a Bookmarks folder & display the bookmarks, highlight a bookmark & right-click to Delete, nothing happens.

All this worked in v3.x. :((

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks", it opens the same bookmarks manager that you get in Firefox 3.6

If you can not delete bookmarks, there may be a problem with the file that stores them, for details on fixing that see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to admit that I don't consider the Organize Bookmarks "redesign" a solution in anyway. It's anti-intuitive & has added unneeded menu steps to what should be a one-click procedure.

This plus the awkward placement of the "refresh" button have convinced me to drop FF & use Chrome exclusively.

But thank you again.

Firefox 4 no longer shows a Reload and Stop button on the Navigation Toolbar, but has a button on the right end of location that shows the different states.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
You can middle-click that Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

To move the buttons to their positions in previous Firefox versions you can use these steps:

  • Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window to move the Stop and Reload button out of the location bar.
  • Drag the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position to the left of the location bar.
  • Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
  • Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.

Ugh...it just gets kludgier, doesn't it. I built complex on-line systems for 25+ years & this would not have passed even a conceptual design review.

And you don't consider Google Chrome as being "kludgie" too? From where I sit, it looks like Mozilla copied Chrome's UI for Firefox, with a dupe of the Opera button for accessing a limited number of menu items.

Yes, edmeister, Firefox 4 is a copy of Chrome. Lovely that they didn't leave an option for us that dislike that user interface. That is why I still use Firefox 3, and wait patiently for the madmen to give up, and let us customize as we want.

@froboz

Hell is gonna freeze over before the Firefox User Interface goes back to what it was in Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions. As far as the user being able to customize the UI, that has always been a part of Firefox - from the first version back in 2002, when it was called Phoenix. I have been using a toolbar setup much like that in Firefox 4+ since 2004, as far as eliminating the Menu bar and reducing the height of the toolbars at the top of the browser window.
