Is there a way to get FF to default to your home page, when opening a new tab, instead of opening a blank tab?

My home page is set to Google Search, and when I open a new tab, I would like it to open that page, instead of a blank tab. As it is, I always have to click the Home button on the FF toolbar, to replace the blank tab with a new Google search page.

Soluție aleasă

You can do that by using an add-on such as:

Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

Thanks very much Tony. The NewTabURL add-on was perfect to suit my need, since it not only allows you to choose any URL for the default New Tab URL, but allows you to shift the focus to the data/search field, and choose several other options. I t does have one minor bug, in that if you set the "Always keep a new tab open," it opens a new window instead of a new tab. Other than that, it's perfect, and that feature can be turned off.

The New Tab Homepage also meets the need, but does not give one the option of changing the focus from the Location bar to the data/search field, which as some users noted, tends to invalidate some of the functionality that it enables.

Thanks for a great solution, and offering two options! -Steve
