Twice recently my main XP system has begun to run extremely slowly and has taken a very long time to shut down. Investigating yesterday, I found that plugin-container.exe was hogging memory, using 250Mb. Available memory went don as low as 6 Mb. As I closed programs it grabbed more, eventually peaking at 400Mb. There were several tabs open, so I closed them one by one, and it was clear that one web site had triggered this problem. I suspect that there had also been memory leakage, with an area of memory no longer available. Eventually the system did close down, but it took 20 minutes. Firefox 4.0.1 is installed. Same problem occurred with a laptop on which 4.0.1 has just been installed.
