Soluție aleasă

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).

If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can use an extension to set which page to open in a new tab:

Yes! It was an AVG extension or plug-in that was doing it. I removed both and I'm back to normal. Thank you so much!
