I have a mac; the side scrollbar only appears when I'm using the touchpad to scroll instead of being a permanent fixture -- is there away to change this?

There used to be a permanent scroll bar on the side of the browser, that I could click on to scroll up and down. But now the scroll bar is gone most of the time -- even if I hover over the very edge of the browser window. It's only when I'm already using the scroll function on my touchpad that the scroll bar appears. I liked having a permanent scroll bar much better; is there a way to make it be there all the time?

Try to remove the Firefox plist file (org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

Go to "~/Library/Preferences" and remove the plist file for Firefox (org.mozilla.firefox.plist)

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
