Support-

I had just selected a bookmark folder (to drop down the list of contained bookmarks) on the bookmark toolbar. While scrolling down the list to make a specific selection, my finger slipped off the mouse.

Now this very "critical bookmark folder" is missing from the toolbar and I've not been able to locate its contents anywhere within the expansion of all bookmark details.

There were no warnings or bookmark deletion messages, the entire bookmark folder has vanished without a trace.

Why did this occur and more importantly, does Firefox keep backups of bookmarks?

How might I recover the vanished bookmark folder? And do not suggest using a backup. The last system backup predates the most recent changes to this missing bookmark folder.

Thanks for your assistance.

Ed Terry

Soluție aleasă

Did you try a search for a bookmark in this folder to see if you moved it by accident into another folder?

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) to get them back.
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons next to the Back and Forward buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.

If it didn't work then you can restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore

This will replace all current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created.
