Hi bbabq4, The update to 4.4 was rumored to go over the air, but I do not know for sure for where you are. I do know you can check with the Verizon support if this was pushed, however if you noticed the android version go to 4.3 or 4.4 then it was probably upgraded.

I use firefox sync on my android, so my bookmarks are synced after an update. Do you use Firefox Sync? If not I highly recommend using this to save the bookmarks in another place http://mzl.la/KpeZJw just in case this happens again.

If you have a file navigator on the phone, can you please check to see if the bookmark file was changed at the time that you noticed the update?

If you navigate to the History portion of the homescreen, do you see any stars/favorite here?
