No restore previous session option available and can't find sessionstore.js in latest firefox version.

After a crash, I turned on my firefox to find the restore previous session option greyed out. So I go to my profile folder to find no sessionstore.js file, I assumed this is because the lastest firefox made changes to where the session store is stored now. Where is the session stored now and is there anyway I can restore my previous session? I really need it.

Hello,

I am really sorry that you had to face this problem.

Did you try typing "about:sessionrestore" in the address bar? If no then type about:sessionrestore and hit enter.

Hope it helps you.

What I'm asking is, is there any way i can get that session back? I looked in the firefox profile folder and can't find the sessionstore.js file anymore. I think they have changed the way the session is stored now and which file it's stored in. Can anyone tell me how it works now and if there is anyway i can get that session back.

Firefox still uses the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder. Only the sessionstore.bak file in no longer used and has been replaced by backups and previous versions in the sessionstore-backups folder.

You can check browser.sessionstore.* prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the about:config page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

You can also try this startup setting:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup:
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"

This is strange. I can't find the sessionstore.js file in my firefox folder anymore. What happened was my computer froze while firefox was running so I had to force a shutdown, after doing so and launching firefox I got no this is embrassing restore previous session message and the option to restore previous session was greyed out. So i went to my profile folder and found that there was no sessionstore.js file. What can i do to restore a backup now if there even is any. i am not familiar with this new backup system. That session is really important and i need it and would like to restore it if possible.

Do you at least have a sessionstore-backups folder with recent files in it?

I found the session backups folder and the files there seems to match the kb and the date of the session i wanted to restore. i think i still have a backup of the session! Now all i need to know is how do i restore this?

Hi nasaqww, make sure to back up all those session files to a safe location since Firefox may discard or overwrite them at any time.

When Firefox exits normally, it creates a sessionstore.js file in the top level of your profile folder (the traditional location).

So... rename that file to sessionstore.old, and copy in the back up file you want to try and name that backup file sessionstore.js. Then start Firefox again and it should be treated as the previous session.

Any luck?
