I have installed Firefox 34.0.5. I've tried everything to install flash but it still do not work. It says it installed fine, but when I check, it has not been installed. It's not even in the add-on list. Please tell me how this works. Thanks.

I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem with Adobe Flash in Firefox. I would be happy to help you get this problem taken care of. First in Firefox go to the Adobe Flash Player website . Then instal it, after that close out Firefox just to make sure that it will apply. Then check to see that it is listed in the add-on list.

This should take care of any problems that you have been having. If not let me know and we will work from there. If it does fix the problem please mark this answer as the solution to the problem.

I have gone to the adobe site, installed flash, closed out firefox, but it still is not listed in the add-ons.

I'm sorry that that did not fix the problem. I'm still hoping this will be a relatively easy fix. So I'm going to point you to this Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems article . If that does not work then we will have some fun. Hope this helps, be sure to keep me updated.

I've checked the page. Nothing worked.

This has become extremely frustrating and i am about to give up on firefox all together. This should not be this difficult. I've tried installing flash countless times over the past week and wasted hours and hours on this. Someone must have a solution for this. Everytime I install it, it says its installed fine. Then when I check the add-ons, it is not there.

Is this a completely new installation of Firefox, or a problem after updating?

One possible reason for an installed plugin not to appear on the Add-ons page is if Firefox has been set NOT to scan the registry for plugins. Another is that Firefox's settings file storing plugin data has become corrupted. Here are the steps to check those possibilities:

Confirm that Firefox is scanning the registry for plugins

Firefox finds the Flash plugin from a registry entry. Some users have the scanning turned off for some reason. Here's how to check and fix that:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste scan and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If plugin.scan.plid.all is not set to its default value of true, double-click it to toggle it back to the default.

If you changed this setting, exit and restart Firefox to trigger another scan.

If you check the Add-ons page, Plugins section again, can you find "Shockwave Flash" there?

If Firefox is set to scan but still does not find Flash and list it on the Add-ons page...

Remove Firefox's plugin registry file

Sometimes the pluginreg.dat file becomes corrupted. You can remove it and have Firefox re-scan for plugins.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button to launch a new Windows Explorer window showing your settings files.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • File menu > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginreg.old

Start Firefox back up again. (If you want to restore your previous non-private session, use History > Restore Previous Session.)

When you return to the Add-ons page, is "Shockwave Flash" finally there?

If not, could you ...

Check the Flash System Folder

Firefox normally finds Flash here on a 32-bit system:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

The file would be named the following (with possible variation for recent updates):

NPSWF32_16_0_0_235.dll

Thanks for the reply...

1. plugin.scan.plid.all is already set to true.

2. I renamed pluginreg.dat but it's still not in add ons.

3. NPSWF32_16_0_0_235.dll is in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Still not working yet though.

It does work in Internet explorer. Could that be causing some sort of conflict. I uninstalled it all together and then re-installed it in firefox but still nothing

more options

There shouldn't be any conflict between Flash in different browsers. IE uses a different file (not the DLL file).

Could you check on whether there is a conflicting (old) Flash DLL in any of these places and remove it if you find one:

  • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins
  • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\browser\plugins
  • %APPDATA%\Mozilla\plugins (you can paste that into Start>Run or the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter, and Windows should navigate to the relevant folder)

Could you also open the following page and search for any plugins that list flash as one of their content types: type or paste about:plugins in the address bar and press Enter.

In C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox there is no plugins folder

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\browser there is just a searchplugins folder with nothing flash related in it. No plugins folder.

In %APPDATA%\Mozilla there is no plugins folder.

Nothing related to flash in about:plugins

I uninstalled fiefox and re-installed again and tried all the above suggestions again, but still nothing.

more options

Do you have the registry entries that Firefox uses to find the Flash plugin?

more options

I not really sure what i'm looking for with this link. I checked for %APPDATA%\Mozilla\plugins but there is no plugins folder.

more options

That's fine, that folder would only be there if a third party installer created it. You could check the registry next, as mentioned in cor-el's post.

I installed the new firefox 35.0 and flash was already installed perfectly. Problem solved. Thanks for all your great help though. Appreciate it!
