I have 4 email addresses - 3 work fine but with 4th I can send messages but cannot find a 'sent' folder - they all end up in the outbox folder -help
I have 4 email addresses - 3 work with a 'sent' folder and I use imap, But with the 4th there has never been a 'sent' folder but I can send messages and they appear in the folder 'outbox' -how do I get a folder called 'sent' that will automatically receive and save all sent messages and a 'outbox' folder to show those waiting to go. I notice on my main email address sometimes messages are stored in the 'outbox' and sometimes in the 'sent ' folder -why is this -have I set something up incorrectly?
Many thanks for any advice Timbo1

re : 4th account
Have you subscribed to see the server 'Sent' folder ? Right click on mail account and select : 'Subscribe' It should show you a list of folders on the server. 'Sent' (it might be called 'Sent Items' or similar) needs to be selected in order to see it.
then check Account Settings: right click on mail account name in folder pane and select 'Settings' select: 'Copies & Folders' for that imap mail account
If gmail: Do not select 'Place a copy in' as Gmail does this automatically.
Otherwise: Select : 'Place a copy in' Select: 'Other' and choose the 'Sent folder on the imap mail account' click on OK
The 'Outbox', located in Local Folders, is the holding folder for any unsent mail from any mail account. If you are operating in 'offline' mode, then when you want to send an email, you will be offered the 'Send Later' operation.
you can choose 'File' > 'Send Later' at any time to store an unsent but ready to send message in the Outbox. To send any messages in the 'Outbox'. right click on 'Outbox' folder and choose 'Send unsent messages'.
Hi Toad-Hall Have clicked on subscribe and folder 'sent' is not shown so I cannot subscribe!
Thanks
Are your messages actually being sent? The outbox is a folder that holds mail that has not been actually sent, but sending is pending.
As far as I can tell all the messages have been sent - I would have hundreds of messages that have not been sent if that was the case. Very bizarre!!
I have tried the above but the problem remains. I have noticed that when I send a message from a third party computer using my mail provider's account, the messages are put into the thunderbird 'outbox' folder on my home computer. I know these message have been sent as I have replies. I must have set something up incorrectly -any further ideas? Many thanks
re :Have clicked on subscribe and folder 'sent' is not shown so I cannot subscribe
Is it a gmail account? What setting have you got in Account Settings > Copies & Folders for that imap account?
If you logon to webmail account, what is the name of the 'Sent' folder, sometimes it can be called 'Sent Items' or similar ?
In the webmail account, there may be the ability to select which folders you wish to see via imap, perhaps 'Sent' is not selected ?
Thanks very much - it is not a gmail account.
on my webmail which is provided by orange in france the sent emails are named 'envoyes'
I can't immediately see a way of selecting which folders are selected or not in webmail acount.
Is there a way I could clear all information from thunderbird after having saved it somewhere and start over?
Hi -thanks for your help - I have somehow managed to create 'sent' folders and have cleared the 'outbox' folders so for the moment everything is working well - not sure exactly what I did but so far so good -many thanks Toad-Hall for you suggestions and advice
