How do I force a page to stop loading? In IE I can just go to View, Stop to halt the page activity but can not figure out how to stop with FireFox! I don't want to Refresh the page; I just want to stop it from spinning (whatever activity it is currently stuck on) and then be able to select 'Home' or some other page activity to force a new action from where I currently am without a full page refresh.

Thanks!

The reload icon at the right hand end of the location bar is curved arrow. When it is active and loading it becomes a cross. The cross is clickable and stops the activity.

Does this happen at some sites, many?

You should also be able to press the ESC key to stop the page loading in addition to clicking the Stop button at the right end of the location/address bar.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
