I have followed all the ways to get to the place where you check to display the bookmark toolbar, and it is always already checked, but it does not display. When I look at the list of bookmarks, there is the entry for bookmarks toolbar populated with what I expect to be there, but I cannot get it to display across the top of the page (with the other toolbars). I can make the Menu and my Norton toolbars go away and then re-display, but not the bookmarks. Help would be much appreciated!

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar. Look for Show / Hide Toolbars at the bottom left.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

If "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still positioned on the Bookmarks Toolbar if you check that in customize mode then check for problems with places.sqlite.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette to the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window to the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar set.

I deactivated the older Adobe Plug-in. I Restored Defaults (no change at that time) but I also started Firefox in safe mode and did see the bookmarks toolbar. I restarted in regular mode and it is still there. Thanks!
