i have heard that firefox will stop supporting java applets ? is that true, if yes then when is the expected date for that ?

i am working as software test engineer and our application is purely on java applets. Now we were using Selenium WebDriver to automate our application, but since we have heard that firefox will stop supporting applets , we are in a situation where we will have to look around for a different automation tool.

is this correct news that firefox will stop supporting java applet by end of this year 2016. Please provide details.

As we announced last year, Firefox plans to drop support for all NPAPI plugins, except Flash, in March 2017.

The Win64 Firefox since its Release as of Firefox 42.0 only supported the 64-bit Flash Player. Then as of Win64 Firefox 43.0 it has supported the 64-bit Silverlight Plugin also. The 64-bit Java Plugin is not able to run in Win64 Firefox as only the 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins are white listed to run.
