I just upgraded to 57. I use MSN.com as my home page. I have found that it I open a 2nd tab such as "MSN technology" one of the firefox.exe's starts gobbling memory. I can see this in "Windows Task Manager." If I highlight the firefox.exe that is using all the memory and then click "End Process" the tab will crash and a message appears to that effect. If I then click on "Restore Tab" in firefox the tab I was on comes back up but doesn't gobble memory......so far. I would like to not have to go through all that to make a tab work. Used to be an easy way to show a screen shot so you would know what I mean but I can't find that option in the new 57. Not real thrilled with 57 and think maybe someone slit the fox's wrists.

please go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu Bar then--> Help --> Troubleshooting Information Please take a look in the Accessibility Section if Accessibility is set to "True" there. If yes, can you please Go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security then under Permissions check the setting to prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Restart Firefox

You kind of lost me but where I think you want me to look it shows this: Activated false Prevent Accessibility 0 Accessible Handler Used true Accessibility Instantiator

Since "Prevent Accessibility" is set at "0" I have gone to where you said and checked the "options setting" that says "Prevent Accessibility Services from Accessing Your Browser" and put a check mark in it. I will follow up in a couple of days after I see if everything works ok. Thanks for the help. Why wasn't this checked in the first place?? What problems may it cause since I changed it??

So I did as you said yesterday. Today I am still having, I think, excessive memory usage. I have 4 tabs open including this one. The other 3 are MSN.com, MSN Science & technology, and an article in Science & Technology. There are 6 firefox.exe's open. 1 has 17,024 k, 2 has 119,668 k, 3 has 214,808 k, 4 has 1,071700 k, 5 has 172,904 k, and 6 has 166788 k. They do go up and down a little. Number 4 seems high to me. I went back to the "Troubleshooting Info" and it now shows: Accessibility Activated false Prevent Accessibility 1 Accessible Handler Used true Accessibility Instantiator

I double checked in privacy setting and "Prevent Accessibility" is still checked which I assume it why it now reads "1" above. So what do you think? Thanks for your help. Also found where I can take the screen shots but it won't do the "Task Manager" as it isn't open in firefox I assume.

Thought I would close the tabs one at a time to see which shut down the high memory one. Closed the article tab and the science & tech tab. Still have 6 firefox.exe's showing the 4 is still up at 1,070,000. Shouldn't some of them have closed? Closed MSN home page and only tab open now is this one. Dropped to 5 firefox.exe's but high memory usage one it still there.

My Firefox just went down with two tabs open because of excessive memory usage in version 57. I had msn.com open and then opened a second tab on an article in MSN about a "Flat Earther Launching himself in a rocket." When I opened Windows Task Manager one of the firefox.exe's was up over 2,550,000k of memory. Something just isn't working correctly in version 57 which is supposed to save on memory usage. Could use a little help or may have to go back to older version even if not secure.

Think we have a large misunderstanding going here.

In my 1st post " please go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu Bar then--> Help --> Troubleshooting Information Please take a look in the Accessibility Section if Accessibility is set to "True" there. If yes, can you please Go..."

So you say it was set to False and you went ahead and made the changes any ways. Please reverse the changes you made.

Once done so will work some more.

Pkshadow, I have removed the checkmark and the readings under accessibility are now back to: Accessibility Activated false Prevent Accessibility 0 Accessible Handler Used true Accessibility Instantiator

This is the same readings as before I put in the checkmark. The only change is "Prevent Accessibility" is back to "0" and it had gone to "1" when I put the checkmark in. I am also still having excessive usage of memory when 2 or 3 tabs opened but that had never gone away. I HAVE found a kind of work around by opening articles in new WINDOWS instead of TABS. For whatever reason that seems to keep memory usage under control. I can live with that until Mozilla gets tired of people complaining and fixes the problems. 57 does seem quite a bit faster but until memory usage is fixed it will not be a winner.

Pkshadow......I know you are trying to help but this gets a little old. Just to show you what I mean I have attached a screenshot of "Windows Task Manager." Please note there are 3 tabs open but 7 firefox.exe's. One of the firefox.exe is using 2,167,494 k of memory and another is using 775,036 k. I took this screenshot about 15 to 20 minutes after I had closed two tabs and opened the third one showing. When I open in new windows instead of tabs and then close the window the firefox.exe's go away right now. With tabs they stay open and I have to close them with the "End Process" button at the right bottom of "Task Manager" or shut down and restart Firefox. That may be of help to someone who works on Firefox. Thanks again for your help.

We know what you mean. We do this same thing 100's of x's daily at least for the last week.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 and below is no longer safe to use for every day use do to secuity issues, but 52.5.0 ESR is. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.

You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Did as you said. I not only cleaned the disk, I waxed it and vacuumed the interior by running ccleaner after uninstalling firefox and running clean disk. Downloaded and installed full version of 57 from link you gave. Still have the same problem BUT it is mostly in MSN. I have taken two screen shots, one from eBay with 3 tabs open for 5 minutes and one from MSN with 3 tabs open for 5 minutes. MSN was still climbing when I took the screen shot. I haven't really checked out any other sites yet. Memory problems seem to be common when I look on Mozilla support or run a search for Mozilla Quantum problems. I would be open to someone from Mozilla linking into my computer if they can prove they are from Mozilla. Would like to help but I'm not close to being a power user.
