I gather this has all your passwords stored in it and you can not access them

You are going to have uninstall and go back in ver # to get them out and copy to .txt for use maybe in Last Pass when update again.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then install 52.5.0 ESR https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ then uninstall and get the FF 57 Full Version Installer here : https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

It's up to the writer of the add-on to keep it compatible with the current Firefox. Unfortunately, many great add-ons are now no good.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Downgrade Firefox, get what you need to be exported. Then decide if you want to remain with or update to the current.

If you want to keep the old version; First, Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select Update.

[v56+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Select Update.

Select Never Check For Updates.

Also turn off Use a background service to install updates

Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

Hello, any updates on how we can back-up our passwords? - for safe keeping - for using them if we stop using firefox - etc.

Any app that can read the logins.json file? We can't print or manually copy/paste hundred of complex passwords that we change often..

Thank you FredMcD but how can I downgrade on macOS ? Do you mean install an older version of firefox (replace the current one) and than re-download the latest version ?

I tried something like that some time ago and all kinds of problems happened :(

We just need a simple way to copy/paste the info in password manager, fast and easy.

Follow the downgrade instructions. Once you get the data you want, you can always upgrade after.

Sorry FredMcD but this is not a solution in the 21th century, even if it would work on a mac.

Maybe will try but code and scripts...I know it is the century of developers, so maybe you IT gurus will be kind and make the password manager a little more friendly/more options.

I used an app that made it easy but is not working in Quantum :(

This is a really big thing these day, being forced to use complex passwords, change them often, etc.

Because of the inherited nature of this forum.. when I searched for a solution on a this forum it didn't let me select FF version or OS, It simply followed my keywords.

So either the search options need to come up as soon as I make a search... or I simply ask questions where the topic is matching my keywords.

There are A LOT of people in need to easily export passwords, and also to be able to import them.

Now all websites require an account, and I ended up with lots and lots of them. Some websites, require you change the password all the time.

IT IS A PAIN! - we know about third party's but I don't trust them, don't need all the features, etc.

1. Mozilla should add a primitive and basic export to .csv option if to much trouble to be able to import-export OR 2. Mozilla should at least, provide the necessary API's so that others do it.

Just another thing to deal with, the databases have been changed (the actual mechanisms, of encryption and storage). Fortunately, Firefox is backward-compatible and can still recognize and use the old files - alongside new ones - but, this is mentioned nowhere on Mozilla's (support) pages, the link you have provided.

It's a little bit difficult to understand why there isn't an official utility from Mozilla, for something so (crucially) important - for, literally, anybody and everybody that uses the browser.

Having an online service is all nice and dandy (actually, it's a terrible idea - to be an integral part of the browser, wasting resources and creating a target, at the same time), however we *need* to have a way to back-up the passwords, locally and securely... Not too much to ask for, right? :)

There are TONS of 3rd-party utilities, password vaults, such as KeePass - but, that's besides the point and once again, these would be 3rd-party and not Mozilla affiliated software programs, heh.

key3.db [v58+] key4.db and logins.json are the Password files. Both are required.

cert8.db [v58+]cert9.db and possibly cert_override.txt These store all your security certificate settings and any SSL certificates you have imported into Firefox.
