Since around late dec 2017, early jan 2018, I've not been able to watch anything on netflix, I believe this was following updating to firefox update 57, but not 100% sure when exactly cause I was traveling a bit from my home at the time.

I've tried reinstalling firefox, turning the addon off/on, but to no avail. There weren't that many post about this kind of issue regarding netflix so I couldn't find any random solutions to try out.

Hi,

Have you tried toggling on /off DRM in Options => General  ?

My apologies - I should have noticed that you already tried it.

I had high hopes that the solution in this thread would work for you as well :

I can't think of anything else to suggest, but I sure hope that somebody else will come to your rescue .....

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

There is Tracking Protection that can block (wanted) content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> cookies: "Show cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

After reinstalling firefox, it was doing the same, so had no other extentions, also the "Tracking Protection" icon does not show up on netflix it's not utilized there for me, cleared the cache, removed the cookies, restarting in safe mode does nothing either, turning the DRM off/on just reinstalls it, but still to no affect.

I've seen notice of removing registry keys but have never done anything with those before so I'm hesitant to try without a clear guide on how and what they do.

Thanks for the try though. I guess I'm doomed to be watching netflix using internet explorer. :(

So when you reinstalled FF was this after deleting any Addon/extensions and the Mozilla folder and then reinstalling a clean FF to see if there wasn't any problems? If I recall Netflix is notorious for disliking adblockers and script blockers and if they detect it they can block your access as well by the Agreement you agreed to when you joined their Streaming services as well. Other wise you need to get a hold of Netflix support and tell them what is going on and follow their trouble shooting to narrow down the problem.
