soundcloud songs still doesn't play in your "NEW" firefox quantum or wtf its called now... very disappointing, considering google chrome plays it without fuzz or hasstle in linux.

I don't know what you people do, but considering its not working in firefox latest

opposed to google chrome is heart and product breaking. I love firefox and all but,

basic functionality is important and a deal breaker here. That makes me question if even netflix is broken in your firefox and not working too...

Shame too, guess google chrome for me, till you get your shit together!

Is this problem only on SoundCloud? What results do you get with the various audio formats on this test page:

For Netflix, you'll need to make sure:

  • DRM is enabled and Widevine is installed (Watch DRM content on Firefox)
  • Autoplay is not disabled (or for some reason Netflix's custom controls are hidden)

None of those are playing, the small player play button turns to play, but its stuck at 0/2:54 (different for others, different file play lenghts?) so no, none of it plays, stuck at 0/X:Y:z Switched to google chrome on my (same linux machine) and it plays fine in chrome. I noticed it said at top error popup; that to play audio, you may need to install pulseaudio software *Learn more, click here*

That makes little sense if, chrome can play them, why is firefox being so difficult , so what the heck is it talking about if chrome plays them fine

                                               [quote]

"""If you see a notification saying "To play audio, you may need to install the required PulseAudio software", it means that Firefox cannot find or use PulseAudio. Starting with Firefox 52, the PulseAudio software is required to play any audio from Firefox. Most Linux distributions now come with PulseAudio pre-installed. """"

                                               /quote

That statement is so false. First of all, you don't need pulseaudio to play soundcloud (as chrome played it fine on same sessions, where firefox failed/fails) so, obviously, the devs of firefox need you to install pulseaudio for whatever reason? My system doesnt need more crap, when it plays fine in a different browser, I think the devs are blindly shooting at their own feet here...

ALsamixer and alsa in general is whats gonna stay on this system, I think the devs need to rethink their decisions to go forward. AS I said, chrome played it all (from http://hpr.dogphilosophy.net/test/ ) and plays soundcloud without some more hastle. It works with both situations of you only got alsa or you have both alsa + pulseaudio installed.

Are you able to fully support the html5 players?. All checks should be blue on https://www.youtube.com/html5/ and if any are red then you may not have packages installed in your package manager like FFmpeg.

If you are able to play HTML5 videos then are you able to hear sound in videos on say youtube.com ?

ALSA support was dropped starting Firefox 52.0 and later. Some Linux distros may have delayed this change to PulseAudio with their own third-party Firefox packages to use ALSA until more recently.

On Linux, Firefox now requires PulseAudio to play sound and no longer plays sound directly with ALSA.

You could compile Firefox yourself with --disable-pulseaudio --enable-alsa

Keep in mind that if you do this you will not get updates from Mozilla as it will be a third-party build.

Yes, I went to that link and everything's checked and yes, youtube works. I dont think chrome would work if I had anything missing, so not sure what the dealio with this firefox is.

Could be the packaging of this preinstalled version. I am going to install a package from the website, see if that installation will work fine and report back

And if you do have PulseAudio there can be some issues in some instances and is fixed in future Firefox 60.0 Release.

Still doesnt play , i tried to use the package from the official mozzila site and same problem. I gave up and switched back to chrome for now.

Good news that it might be addressed in the 60th release & looking forward to it, with some hope.
