Thunderbird stalls at deleting emails
Dell PC XPS8930 WIN10 64bits, Bitdefender Always used Thunderbird without any problems. On this PC thunderbirds works well but at deleting emails something goes wrong, not immediately but after deleting more than one email Thunderbird stops reacting and has to be closed. I tried to reinstall the program several times and I changed from McAfee to Bitdefender. Tried to use use older versions but so far the problem remains. I dont know what to do anymore, please help because I love this program.

I think I found the solution for my problem. Without me knowing it Bitdefender internet security put an Add-on in Thunderbird called Bitdefender antispam Toolbar. After I stopped this Add on, Thunberbird seems to work fine ! I hope it keeps on working fine after this simple change. You helped me a lot thanks again for that

I started windows in safemode and deleted some mails the problem did not show now !

This suggests antivirus or some other software that loads during Windows startup is the cause.

I changed already from McAfee to Bitdefender and nothing changed, Maybe its usefull to reduce the large startup list in this PC ?

Only if the slow deletes are happening shortly after Windows startup.
Rules of thumb:
- Only run one antivirus program
- Only run one malware program
- Some AV and some malware programs do email scanning - it is recommended that you turn this OFF (worst case, make certain you aren't running it in both) [1]
- Make an exception for your Thunderbird profile data directory in these programs [2] (These programs already should NOT scan the TB profile, but failures happen)

Thanks a lot for your help so far Wayne ! I have trouble to simply understand some of the things you wrote. But to solve the issues with Bitdefender I just have asked them to provide customercare on my thunderbird problem. I hope they will be able to tell me which settings I might adjust to avoid this problem. As it is night in Holland now the answere will take some time. I let you know about the progress. Thanks again for your support
