In your instructions for converting POP to IMAP, it states "If you have created a new email account that uses IMAP, you cannot delete your old POP account without deleting your email address. Before deleting the POP account, you will probably want to inform people who send messages to your old account that they should switch to your new email address, and allow a period of time to pass before deleting the POP account to ensure that you don't miss any messages. " This is confusing me..I have only one email account..do I simply disable the POP accound according to those instructions and then create a IMAP account with that same email address so my Thunderbird shows two accounts same email..one POP and one IMAP...move any emails from POP to the IMAP emails..then delete the POP account? I think, hopefully, the quote above is just if you are creating a new EMAIL in imap..

From the article, 'Delete your POP account section': The first paragraph states: "If you are converting your email account to IMAP from POP, you can delete the POP account when you are completely sure that you have moved all your important messages to the IMAP server (or into your Local Folders)."

It seems this is what you're trying to do.

The paragraph you were referring to in your OP: "If you have created a new email account that uses IMAP, you cannot delete your old POP account without deleting your email address."

This refers to a new IMAP account with a different email address than your existing POP account. This doesn't seem to be what you want to do.

Yes, that's what you're supposed to do, and that's exactly what the article states.

hopefully, the quote above is just if you are creating a new EMAIL in imap..

Correct.
