Yes, you can. To default one of the buttons on the Find bar, try this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

Match Case

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste case and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the accessibility.typeaheadfind.casesensitive preference and Firefox should display an editable field where you can modify the value as desired. To save the change, press Enter or click the blue check mark button. (To reset to the original value, use the button toward the right end of the row with the left-pointing arrow.)

  • 0 => e matches e and E, E matches E and e (Match Case button _not_ highlighted on Find bar) (default)
  • 1 => e matches e but not E, E matches E but not e (Match Case button highlighted on Find bar)
  • 2 => e matches e and E, E matches E but not e (Match Case button removed from Find bar) (AKA "auto")

You might need to reload the tab before the Find bar will reflect the change.
